Q:
Do you accept unsolicited demos?
A: Yes. We'd be more than happy to
listen to your record. Our only criteria is this: To help you put out
your records, we have to like your music. Send demos to 304 West 10th
St. Erie, PA 16502.
Q: How do I book one of your bands
on my show?
A: Well, the easiest way to do this is
to visit the bands website (A link to their site, if they have one,
will be located in their "Artist" page). You can also contact
the label here if
you're having trouble getting a hold of the band. Be sure to check the
Calendar
to make sure that the band is not already playing or on tour on the
date of your show.
Q: What is this label all about?
A: Basement Transmissions is an indie,
collective kind of label. This does not mean that we only accept "indie
rock" bands. We work with punk, rock, indie, hardcore, new wave,
and pretty much any other type of band you can think of. The important
thing is that the bands have an independent way of thinking. We are
more about building a strong music community than trying to sell 500,000
copies of a record, and get airtime on MTV.
Q: How long has Basement Transmissions
been around?
A: We have been a label since the summer
of 2004. It started as an idea to help strengthen our local scene, and
has blossomed to become the beautiful flower that you see before you
now. (For the full story on BTR, talk to Bob Jensen next time you see
him. This is actually the 2nd incarnation of BTR)
Q: Who the hell is running this
thing, anyway?
A: BTR is mainly run by four people. Joshua
Zimmer, John Johnston, Jason Lavery and Jon Burdick. We also enlist
the help of Steve Crane and Bob Jensen from time to time. We are all
very nice guys, who deserve hugs and kisses.
Q: How can I help out with BTR?
A: How can't you help? We're always looking
for people to help us handle the many duties that it takes to operate
a record label. We're also trying to set up a Street Team to help us
flyer for the many shows that our bands play. If you are interested
in helping out in any way, contact us at info@basementtransmissions.com,
and we'll let you know what you can do.
Q: When is the new (any BTR
band) record coming out? When are they going to play my town?
A: When we know, you'll know. The "News"
section and the "Calendar"
are being updated all the time. If the answer to your question isn't
on either of those pages, then you probably know as much as we do.
Q: Where can I get the new (any
BTR band) record once it comes out?
A: Well, right now we're working
on getting our distribution set up. In the mean time, we have an online
store (which will be up and running very soon) to order from, or you
can pick up a record at a show that the band is playing. Also, if you
live in Erie, check your local record stores.
Q: Who is the coolest guy at BTR?
A: Josh... Without question.
Q: What do you guys actually do
for a living?
A: We're mostly hobos who have access to
a recording studio and a computer... But John works for the Government.
